Glossary

This glossary is designed to provide clear and concise definitions of key terms and concepts used throughout Nexefy Mapper. Whether you're new to our platform or looking to familiarise yourself with specific terminology, this resource is here to help you understand the language we use.
Collections

A collection is a group of maps that share a common characteristic. Similar to a book—where a single book can belong to multiple genres—a map can fall under multiple collections.

Collections are based on specific, predetermined factors, typically related to the framework that was used to create the map. In the context of Training.gov.au, the System Collection types are; qualification or skill set.

Content

Content refers to the materials, information, or resources that you create outside of Mapper to compare them against a framework

In the context of training.gov.au, content refers to the; training content and assessment tools used to deliver a unit of competency.
Criteria

Criteria Segment - A criteria segment is a logical grouping of criteria within the context of the framework. In the context of training.gov.au these groups are; elements and performance criteria, foundation skills, performance evidence, knowledge evidence, assessment conditions.

Criteria Group –  A group of related criteria within a framework.

Criterion – A criterion is a specific requirement within a framework used evaluate or assess content against.

Filters

A filter helps users refine a list by displaying only items that match selected attributes, making it easier to focus on relevant information within large or complex lists.

Filters on the Mapper Dashboard:

  • Filters are used to show maps or collections that match the chosen filter option.
  • The Met/Not Met filter, are applied by default and cannot be edited.

Framework

A framework is a structured set of criteria, designed to achieve a specific purpose.

In the context of training.gov.au, a framework is the benchmark is used to ensure training content and assessment tools are fit for purpose.

In the context of training.gov.au, the framework has two levels;

  • Framework Section - qualification and/or skill set
  • Framework Sub-Section - unit
Map

A map is the outcome of comparing a structured framework of criteria to a body of content. The map shows how the content relates to the framework, highlighting both alignments and gaps.

In the context of training.gov.au, a map is the outcome of comparing a unit of competency (the framework of criteria) to training content and assessment tools, highlighting both the alignment and gaps between them.  

A map can contain several versions which each show previous map results.

Map Version 

A version is an updated or revised iteration of an existing map, where changes are made to improve or refine the content while maintaining a connection to the original map.

The most recent version is displayed on the report page for clear access to the most relevant map.

You can use the same documents again, combined with completely new documents, or updated documents to create a new version of a map.

Reasoning

Reasoning is the justification whether a reference (training, experience, or evidence) meets the required competency or criterion.

References

A reference is the training, work experience, or evidence used to demonstrate competency against a criterion. In the context of training.gov.au, a reference includes; the file, quote, section and page number.
